How to play 1500m
Here’s how to play the 1500m: a free track and field pacing game in your browser. It’s three and a half laps of discipline against the Beat Pete characters, up to Pete himself: find a cadence you can hold with the left and right pads and keep an eye on your stamina.
Tap faster than the green tick on the cadence gauge and your stamina drains; ease off and it refills. Go out too hard and you’ll pay for it later. Save something for the last lap and chase the fastest time on the leaderboard. Below you’ll find the full rules, tips and some common questions.
The basics
Three and a half laps of discipline. Run the 1500 metres against the characters: find a cadence you can hold and save something for the last lap.
Running
- Tap left, then right, then left… Every alternating tap gives you a push. The same side twice is a stumble, and a steady rhythm pushes harder than ragged tapping.
- Phones and tablets only. Keys are far quicker than thumbs, so Track & Field isn’t playable with a keyboard or mouse. That keeps every record fair.
- It’s a long race, so rest your thumbs when you need to: Pause freezes the race and your stamina with it.
Stamina
- The cadence gauge shows how fast you’re tapping. Above the green tick your stamina drains; below it, it refills.
- Run empty and you can’t go any faster than the green tick, however fast you tap.
- Go out too hard and you’ll pay for it later. Save something for the last lap.
The start
- “On your marks… set…” then the gun, after a random wait. A tap before the gun, or within a tenth of a second of it, is a false start. The second false start disqualifies you.
The ladder
- You race one of the ten characters, from level 1 up to Pete. Beat a character to unlock the next. Four more runners fill the other lanes, six of you in all, and your finishing place is shown too.
Times
- Your fastest winning time goes on the leaderboard, to the hundredth of a second. The world record is 3:26.00, and the server won’t accept anything under 3:26.20.
Beginner tips
- Settle into a steady cadence just above the green tick and stay there. This is a long race: patience wins it.
- Don’t chase the early leaders. Let them go and catch them when their stamina is gone.
- Keep your stamina bar from hitting empty until the last lap, then spend what’s left.
- Rest your thumbs if you need to: pausing freezes everything, including your stamina.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the 1500m take?
Around three and a half to five minutes, depending on how quickly you run and which character you race. Pete runs about 3:30.
How do I play the 1500m on a phone?
Alternate the two big pads with your thumbs at a steady rhythm. The game is for phones and tablets only, because keys would be far quicker and records wouldn’t be fair.
What does the stamina bar do?
It drains when your cadence is above the green tick and refills when you’re below it. When it’s empty you can’t go faster than the tick, however fast you tap.
Can I pause?
Yes. Pausing freezes the race, including your stamina, so it’s fine for a quick rest. Friend duels, when they arrive, won’t allow it.
How is it ranked?
By your fastest winning time, to the hundredth of a second. You win by finishing ahead of the character you chose to race. The world record is 3:26.00 and nothing in the game is faster than 3:26.20.
Is the 1500m free?
Yes. It’s free to play in your browser, with nothing to download.
Ready to play 1500m?
