Want more? Practice works through the puzzles from easiest to hardest, with mates, forks, pins and hanging pieces to filter by. Tap a piece, tap where it goes (or drag it), and Pete will do the commentary.

About the chess puzzles

A chess puzzle is a position where there is a clear best move, or a short sequence of moves, that wins material, forces mate or saves the game. Solving them is one of the fastest ways to improve at chess, because you practise spotting tactics such as forks, pins and mates.

There is a new daily puzzle every day, the same for everyone, and it changes at midnight GMT. Solve it to build a streak. Want more? The practice puzzles run from easy to tough, so you can work on mates, forks and other tactics at your own pace.
